Let’s Talk Globally: Religious-racial cultural imagination(s) in Britain
February 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join us in person or online for a conversation with Medomfo Owusu, a 1st year MDiv student as she explores the racial-religious cultural imagination of the British public towards soulful soundscapes. Soulful soundscapes, a Black Catholic term for sonic expressions of Africana Christianities in religious and nonreligious settings, has been present in Britain for centuries by various communities from the African diaspora, and yet is othered or erased from the cultural imagination of predominantly Eurocentric views of the British public. Using the soulful soundscapes of the 2018 Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as our starting point, this conversation aims to foster critical discussions of racial-religious cultural imaginations concerning soundscapes, worship and historical narratives.
