Public Theology 101: How to Amplify Your Message

September 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Are you a community organizer who wants the press to feature your organization’s work? A theologian who wants to write op-eds? A minister who wants local news to publicize your church’s programs? Join Rev. Benjamin Perry, Garrett’s Editorial Director, and learn practical skills to accomplish your goals. Rev. Perry has previously been a communications director for Union Theological Seminary, helped coordinate media relations for the Poor People’s Campaign, and was previously the Minister of Media Strategy at Middle Church. An award-winning writer, he is the author of Cry, Baby: Why Our Tears Matter, his work has been featured in publications like The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Slate, Teen Vogue, and Religion News Service, and he has appeared on outlets like NPR, MSNBC, The BBC and more. They will lead a short presentation on best practices for engaging media, and then will be happy to answer any questions you bring about particular projects you’re working on. You can join online or in-person.
