PhD Student Garam Han Selected as 2020 Doctoral Fellow by the Louisville Institute

Garam Han, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary PhD student, has been selected as a 2020 Doctoral Fellow by the Louisville Institute. Han is in the Christian education and congregational studies track of the seminary’s PhD program.

“I am deeply pleased and honored to receive this prestigious fellowship and am also looking forward to meeting and learning from other doctoral students and mentors at the meetings in the Louisville Institute. Again, I am so thankful for the opportunity,” said Han.

The Louisville Institute Doctoral Fellowship program encourages current PhD/ThD students to consider theological education as their vocation. The Institute awards up to ten two-year Doctoral Fellowships of $2,000 per year. In addition, Fellows constitute a peer learning cohort that meets six times over a two-year period.

“Ms. Han is a gifted student and an asset to our PhD program,” said Dr. Charles Cosgrove, director of Garrett-Evangelical’s PhD program. “Her research has broad significance for the field of Christian education and puts her at the cutting edge of practical theological scholarship.”

Han is from South Korea and her research is focused on Korean and Korean American women’s identity formation through the lens of an interdependent relationship between women and ecology. She is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a candidate in the Greater Atlanta Presbytery. She earned a master of theology, master of divinity, and master of arts in practical theology from Columbia Theological Seminary, and a bachelor of arts from Hannam University in Daejeon, South Korea.
